For maturity tests, fish collected from ponds were held in a stretcher and readiness for spawning was examined by applying gentle hand pressure near the genital opening. Ripe males released milt and one female released ova on 9 March. This female and two males were transported to the hatchery for further handling. Gentle pressure was applied to the abdomen of the clean and dried female to express eggs into a clean and dry bowl. Milt from both males was collected in another bowl and then mixed with eggs for dry fertilization. Fertilized eggs were washed several times and spread in Atkin incubators, allowing one layer of eggs to settle on a mesh screen in the flow-through system. Water flow was maintained at 7-9 L/min. Incubation trays were covered with dark cloth to reduce light levels. Eggs were observed after 24 hours during incubation and unfertilized (CONTINUED ON PAGE 56) Evaluating condition of sahar broodfish. Stripping of eggs from a sahar brood female.
