Some years ago flatfish reproduction and culture were developed under captive conditions in public and private institutions, which conducted experimental research and production at a commercial pilot level to achieve sustained production of the species. However, there continues to be problems of quality, quantity and growth of juveniles to support grow-out operations. The Peruvian Marine Research Institute (IMARPE) has been conducting research on reproduction, larval development and juvenile rearing of P. adspersus in the laboratory. In addition, and with great effort, Pacific Deep Frozen SA (PDFSA), a commercial producer and marketer of quality hydrobiological products has also initiated the culture of marine fish in its aquaculture facility in Huarmey (Ancash, Peru), including commercial production of flatfish. In this context, the objective of the study reported here was to compare the effect of different culture systems on growth of juvenile P. adspersus. In Peru, aquaculture sector policy is driven by the National Aquaculture Development Plan 2010-2021 (DS N ° 001-2010-PRODUCE) that guides research to strengthen the value chain of consolidated and emerging species, and promote and execute aquaculture diversification with native species that have market potential and can become the basis for major industries. The National Program for Aquaculture Science, Technological Development and Innovation 2013-2021 (RP No. 064-2013-CONCYTEC-P) established priorities for aquaculture research and development. One research line is oriented to developing a culture technique for the flatfish Paralichthys adspersus and transferring the technology to the commercial sector. The focus is on improving the techniques for reproduction, larval development and production of quality fingerlings. Paralichthys adspersus is distributed from Paita, Peru, to Lota and Juan Fernández Islands in Chile (Acuña and Cid 1995, Chirichigno 1998, Sielfeld et al. 2003).
