The World Aquaculture Society (WAS) 2025 India program is a prestigious international event that brings together scientists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, industry representatives, and farmers from across the globe to share knowledge, innovations, and advancements in the field of aquaculture. Recognizing the immense value of this global platform, the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Department of Fisheries, Government of India is facilitating the participation of fish farmers from across the country to ensure their exposure to emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the sector.

As part of this initiative, around 1,000 fish farmers from across all Indian States and Union Territories are set to participate in the World Aquaculture 2025 (WA2025) India program, facilitated by the NFDB. The event, organized by the World Aquaculture Society in collaboration with the NFDB, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), PV Narasimha Rao Telangana Veterinary University, Hyderabad, Department of Fisheries, Government of Telangana, with support from Society of Aquaculture Professionals (SAP) and Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) will be held from November 10 to 13, 2025, at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre. The participation of these farmers signifies the Government’s commitment towards empowering the primary stakeholders of the fisheries sector and ensuring that the benefits of research, innovation, and global collaboration reach the grassroots level.

Through this exposure visit, farmers will have the opportunity to interact with experts, researchers, and innovators from India and abroad. They will witness demonstrations of advanced aquaculture technologies, sustainable farming models, modern feed and seed management practices, and value addition techniques. Such interactions are expected to broaden their understanding of scientific aquaculture and encourage the adoption of improved methods that can enhance productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability.

The NFDB’s facilitation of this large-scale farmer participation aligns with the vision of transforming India’s fisheries sector through knowledge exchange, capacity building, and technological upgradation. By connecting Indian fish farmers with global advancements, this initiative aims to strengthen the country’s position in the international aquaculture landscape while promoting inclusive growth and livelihood enhancement for the rural fisher community.

The participation of farmers in WAS 2025 India will not only provide them with valuable learning experiences but also inspire innovation and entrepreneurship within the fisheries sector. This collective exposure is expected to act as a catalyst for the adoption of modern aquaculture practices, contributing to the realization of the Government’s goals under programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PMMKSSY) and other national fisheries development initiatives.

In essence, the NFDB-facilitated participation of 1,000 fish farmers in the WAS 2025 India program is a landmark effort to bridge the gap between global advancements and local practices, fostering a more resilient, sustainable, and prosperous future for India’s fisheries and aquaculture sector.
