This volume presents ten invited papers and the discussion sessions that followed from a workshop held in St. Thomas, USVI, in November 1988. Coverage includes history of aquaculture in the region, species with potential for culture, governmental policies and programs, resource management, environmental planning for aquaculture, regulatory aspects, sociocultural factors, financial feasibility, business case study, and marketing of aquaculture products. This volume is intended to provide regional planners, decision-makers, and entrepreneurs with a "toolbox" of information, a guidebook to realize the potential for aquaculture development in the region. Although the focus is on regional context, the information presented raises issues that concern those involved with aquaculture development globally.
