Mass production of  the seed Grass Carp (Ctenopharingodon idela) and Silver Carp (Hypopthalmichthys molitrix)

The ability to produce seeds of  Grass Carp (Ctenopharingodon idela) and Silver Carp (Hypopthalmichthys molistrix) both qualitative and qualitative is the considerable importances in the freshwater fish development. In 2014, the Center for Freshwater Aquaculture, Sukabumi has conducted mass production of Grass Carp and Silver Carp in associated with restocking program in the Cirata lake west Java and producing selected fingerling size to obtain the good quality brooder stock that could be distribute to freshwater stakeholder in certain regional states. The objective of this paper is to Inform about mass production of Grass Carp and Silver Carp by means of improving design on the hatching eggs and the aplicated intensification in the seed rearing in the semi-artificial pond. Main targets are (1) to obtain 10 000 selected fingerling size either Grass Carp or Silver Carp 7-9 cm body length and (2) to produce mimimum 50.000 seeds for each spesies in 5-7 cm body length. Methodology consist of resulting brooder maturation in 3 month, stimulating hormon in semi-natural mating in the permanent batch, hatching eggs in the fiber glass, seed poly-culture intensification in the semi artificial pond with starting density 1000 seed/m2, Top 25% in population and  data analyzed. Final data of the Grass Carp broder showed obtain 40% female brooder achieved final ripening stages within 4 month rearing,  114 000 of the number  eggs/kg, 44.2% haching rate, 400 000 newly fry at starting intensification, 52.600 fingerling size and 12 841 selected fingerling size. The Silver Carp  brooder showed 40% female brooder achieved final ripening stages,  182 000 of the number  eggs/kg, 61.3% haching rate, 203 150 newly fry at starting intensification, 66.640 fingerling size and 11 500 selected fingerling size. Conclusion and suggestion: (1) target stock of Grass Carp and Silver Carp seed with 5-7 body length cm to be used as restocking materials in Cirata Lake, West Java can be reached and (2) selected Grass Carp and Silver Carp with 7-9 cm body length successfully obtained. The quality improvement of Grass Carp dan Silver Carp brooder continued to 2017.
