"WARING BAGS" FOR LIVE TRANSPORTATION OF ABALONE (Haliotis spp.)

Live seafood like abalone is very popular  in economically emerging countries such as China and Hong Kong. This customer base is prioritizing the quality of live abalone. Live abalone seafood in this case is also very easily damaged. And carry perishable products to market requires special attention. Stress encountered during transport will reduce the quality of the lifeproduct, and it will directly affect the sale value of the lifeproduct. It was therefore appropriate packing method in the transportation of live abalone delivery was required.

Method of packing was done by using a waring bag with size 25 cm x 35 cm. Experiments carried out as many as 3 x to make deliveries of seeds and the  abalone broodstock to Makassar. Density of seed with size of 3,0 - 3,5 cm in a styrofoamare 200 individuals and broodstock with size of 5.0 to 7.0 cm by 100 individuals. Density of abalone seed in waring bagare 20 seeds/waring and  abalone broodstock are 10 individual/waring. 10 pieces waring bag that containing abalone, put in a plastic bag and condition waring bag submerged of sea water level, and given oxygen.  

From the delivery test results as much as 3 times to Makassar with long transport time more than 18 hours (time 02:00 gasket and unloading at the destination location until 21.00) note that survival rate of abalone seed/broodstock was 100% and in a healthy state after the acclimatization process.
