Nowadays, production of tiger shrimp has been decreasing continuously. On the other hand, vannamei shrimp has been promoting almost in all part of Aceh coastal area. Here, we conducted assessment as well as socialization about shrimp BMPs that cooperated with AAC (Aceh Aquaculture Cooperative) to shrimp farmers in 4 main location of shrimp culture i.e. Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Timur, Lhokseumawe, and Pidie Jaya. The topics were: pond preparation; seed selection; feed management; water quality management; health management; main diseases in shrimp culture and symptomatology; harvest and post harvest BMPs. The activities had been conducted from 3rd to 7th June 2015 and attended by total 169 shrimp farmers.

The survey showed that more intensively practices of shrimp pond more skillful and aware the farmers with BMP. Farmers in Pidie Jaya applied BMP better than other farmers. They were more familiar with shrimp farming tools and easier to understand with the new information and technology

For each of the 4 session 25-50% of the involved farmers participated actively to the trainings asking mainly for guidance on the productive process and for funding from national institution in term of good quality seed provision and subsidy. During the discussion and field visiting, BADC of Ujung Batee provided several suggestions to implement BMPs. In Aceh Tamiang, communication between adjacent farmers should be promoted to share experiences. Especially in traditional pond, monitoring macrophytes blooming should be conducted regularly, prevention of overfertilization and removing deteriorate aquatic plants. More focus should be given to prevent "white feces syndrome" in Pidie Jaya.Visual health monitoring and mortality recording should be conducted regularly by means feeding tray or casting net. Cooperative models including farmer cluster models should be developed, as Aceh Aquaculture Cooperative is pursuing to actively implement BMPs in Aceh.
