SUCCESSFUL PIONEER OF HOME-MADE FISH FEED IN ACEH

Fish feed issue is seriously addressed by Directorate General of Aquaculture, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries lead to national program called GERPARI (Gerakan Pakan Mandiri, Home-made Fishfeed Movement). The program focused to freshwater fish. In Aceh, the Center (BPBAP of Ujung Batee) socialized it to educational institution and fish farmer such as making fish feed for research and other special purposes in the center, fish feed training, supervision of feed processing and feeding management in farm. Introducing of home-made fish feed began with trial in the Center for various combination of formula for omnivorous fish. The Center have served public demand for making fish feed especially for university student. Training of making fish feed was conducted in Aceh Barat then feed management training was conducted in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Timur, Lhokseumawe and Pidie Jaya. The Center have guided establishment of mini fish feed manufacture of fish farmer called 'Sekolah Pakan Ikan Rakyat" in Aceh. Supervision have been being conducted regularly i.e. feed formulation and processing, supplementation, prophylactic and medicated feed, feed management, water quality management and live feed introduction. Ingredients was acquired and processed locally lead to economically feasible. This effort extends to other place and now cooperates with, BBI of Jantho, Aceh Besar and Brayeun farmer try to culture tilapia. The lowest feed conversion ratio recorded was 1,1 for tilapia culture.
